About the Speak to Me Campaign

About speak to me

The Speak to Me campaign is a powerful movement dedicated to raising awareness about the common practice of not directly addressing individuals with disabilities. Instead, their parent, carer, or guardian is often spoken to as the spokesperson. This behavior can make those with disabilities feel overlooked and disregarded, as if their voices and opinions do not matter.

Why Direct Communication Matters

Respect and Dignity: Speaking directly to someone shows respect for their autonomy and dignity.
Inclusion: Inclusive communication practices ensure that everyone is part of the conversation, fostering a more inclusive society.
Accurate Information: Individuals with disabilities often have the most accurate understanding of their needs and preferences, and their input is crucial for informed decision-making.
Self-Advocacy: Direct communication empowers individuals with disabilities to advocate for themselves and their rights.

Our Mission
from our CEO Harry Georgiou

Empowerment: We strive to encourage individuals with disabilities to assert their right to be heard and involved in conversations about their lives.
Education: Our goal is to inform the public and professionals about the importance of addressing individuals with disabilities directly.
Visibility: We aim to highlight personal experiences and the impact of being overlooked by sharing stories, videos, photos, and quotations on social media and through email.
